5:00 - 6:00 - Pre-Session Video:  How to Write Professional PowerShell Scripts (Andre Kamman)

You probably have a few PowerShell scripts sitting around, perhaps written from scratch, but most likely you borrowed the idea from a blog somewhere, and then used those as templates to achieve your goal. It's time to take those ad-hoc scripts and turn them into your very own module. And while we're at it, we might as well add proper error handling, parameterization, and pipeline support. We will also demonstrate how to build help, force and "whatif" support. This is a demo-rich session and all demos will be covering practical SQL Server related solutions.

6:00 - 6:15 - Opening & Announcements

6:15 - 7:30 - Feature Presentation!

SQL Server and PowerShell: Let's Get Serious

Drew Furgiuele, Senior DBA IGS Energy

Whether you've dabbled in PowerShell or wondered what all the fuss is about, make no mistake: PowerShell is something worth learning to make your life as a SQL Server professional easier. Whether you're a DBA, a SSIS developer, or security professional, In this session you'll see practical, real world examples of how you can blend SQL Server and PowerShell together, and not just a bunch of regular T-SQL tasks that you over-complicate. The goal of this presentation is to give people who have never really used PowerShell to automate tasks in SQL Server a glimpse into what's possible through the use of real, practical examples.

About Drew:
I am a senior DBA that is passionate about SQL Server, PowerShell, automation, source control, and release management, and mixing them all together in a funky blender. I've been in the game since SQL Server 2000, and I haven't stopped wanting to learn more and share my experiences since.
