5:00 - 6:00 - Pre-Session Video:  Building a Performance Monitoring System Using Extended Events and DMVs (Ola Hallengren)

You are using Extended Events and dynamic management views (DMVs) to analyze performance problems in your databases. How do you go from there to building a performance-monitoring system that is easy to use and that works at scale? In this session, learn techniques for loading and parsing Extended Events into a central monitoring database in close to real time, correlating the events with query plans, indexing the data for performance, and making the information easily available.

6:00 - 6:15 - Opening & Announcements

6:15 - 7:30 - Feature Presentation

Featured Presentation:

SQL Server Replication: A Love/Hate Story

Drew Furgiuele, Senior DBA IGS Energy

SQL Server replication is often the butt-end of a lot of DBA jokes. But is that sentiment justified? In this session we’ll be taking a look at a couple different types of replication, how they work, how to set them up, and most importantly how to tell when things go wrong. Along the way you’ll see plenty of examples, tips for deployment and some “gotchas” to watch out for. The goal is to walk out of the session with a better understanding of what SQL Server replication is and how it might help you.

About Drew:
I am a senior DBA that is passionate about SQL Server, PowerShell, automation, source control, and release management, and mixing them all together in a funky blender. I've been in the game since SQL Server 2000, and I haven't stopped wanting to learn more and share my experiences since.
