"There Be Whales Here!" -- Big Data in SQL Server

Aaron Cutshall, Enterprise Data Architect

People most often think that to handle Big Data one must use Hadoop, MongoDB, or some other NoSQL database. This is typically due to the varying definitions of Big Data that try to relate data volume and data organization. SQL Server can easily store and manipulate very large volumes of data and perform quite well provided the database is properly set up and tuned. In this session we'll cover some of the misconceptions of Big Data, look at some Big Data solutions that went wrong, review a case where Big Data was successfully implemented in SQL Server and peek under the covers to see how that was done.

About Aaron:
Aaron N. Cutshall is an Enterprise Data Architect with 20 years of experience in analysis, design and development for applications and databases in manufacturing and warehousing plus over 15 years in the Healthcare Informatics field. His primary focus is in designing and developing solutions for extremely large data sets that perform quite well in SQL Server. He is active in the SQL Server community and speaks at SQL Saturday sessions across the country.
