Featured Presentation: Temporal Tables – What are they and scenarios for using them… Mary Groth, Database Administrator, Progressive Insurance Inc. Temporal tables were introduced in the ANSI SQL 2011 standard and is now been released in SQL Server 2016. Temporal tables also known as system-version tables; system-versioned table allows you to query updated and deleted data, while a normal table can only return the current data. This session will discuss: what a temporal table is and its parts; how to create a temporal table, with some design options; ways to query a temporal table; and finally a few uses. And of course there will be demos. About Mary: I have been working with SQL Server, as a developer and DBA since Version 4.2. Through my career I have been fortunate to be able to work with Microsoft as they were implementing new features and versions of SQL Server. I have worked on partitioning of VLDBs, PDW, In-Memory OLTP, Polybase (PDW & SQL 2016), and Always Encrypted.
